A New Chapter of Support for WSE – CMTS and CTLD

In a strategic move to enhance educational excellence and technological innovation, the Center for Learning Design and Technology (CLDT) has been restructured into two specialized entities: the Center for Media and Technology Solutions (CMTS) and the Center for Teaching and Learning Design (CTLD). Establishing two centers reflects the Whiting School of Engineering’s commitment to furthering a vibrant community of exceptional educators and learners. By providing targeted expertise in media, technology, and teaching practices, these centers aim to empower faculty for the future of learning.

CTLD – Center for Teaching and Learning Design

The CTLD team consists of experienced instructional designers and course support specialists who can help you improve the quality and design of your courses. The CTLD collaborates with faculty to implement the latest research-supported practices in online, face-to-face, or blended classrooms. They assist in designing new courses, redesigning existing ones, and refining specific instructional components.

Quality Assurance (click title to reveal)

CTLD subscribes to Quality Matters™ (QM), a nationally recognized, non-profit, research-supported quality assurance organization that aids in designing high-quality online courses. The team utilizes QM standards in its design and quality review processes.

Accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (click title to reveal)

CTLD helps ensure content meets university accessibility requirements. Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which is flexible, inclusive teaching for all learners, is another area the team applies to courses.

Through the Faculty Forward Academy, CTLD provides practical, hands-on faculty development sessions, including the Faculty Forward Fellowship, along with a wealth of resources to support teaching and learning a unified vision for the future.


CMTS Center for Media and Technology Solutions

The CMTS team includes multimedia and technology solutions experts, AV technologists, multimedia producers, and instructional technologists who answer questions via the CMTS Support Center. CMTS offers how-to guides and direct technical assistance for audiovisual systems and educational technology. The CMTS Support Center provides self-service resources to address common issues and assist users with popular tools.

CMTS’s team of media specialists builds and maintains multimedia systems, offering services such as pre-production planning, videography, screen captures, voice-over production, video editing, and graphic design to enhance instructional materials. They operate several well-equipped campus studios and have a state-of-the-art mobile production kit for on-location productions.
