Providing models of effective lecture recordings, we will examine the theoretical foundations that support best . . . practices for creating such materials. Ultimately, we will explore recommended tools for developing recordings that are engaging and productive for students.

Deep Dive in Canvas Grading
In this workshop we will start at the surface of the Canvas Gradebook and will very quickly shift to exploring its deepest, well-hidden crevices. At the surface, we will do an “equipment check” as we . . . discuss where to start grading. Along our journey to the depths, we will investigate grade release, calculation policies, grading with rubrics, SpeedGrader, exporting from Canvas to SIS, icons and colors, sorting, manually graded quiz questions, and more. Bring your questions, as there will be time for group discussion.

Whether students prefer reading notes, listening to, or watching lectures, we’ll show you how to meet all their needs. In this workshop, we’ll give you hands-on practice to create content materials . . . that support all your students’ learning preferences. We’ll also share why accessibility matters as we explore the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessibility best practices. Come prepared to actively explore accessibility options in Word and PowerPoint using sample documents and examples.

Faculty Forward Fellowship Presents Sarah Stein Greenberg
Sarah Stein Greenberg, author of Creative Acts for Curious People and Executive Director of the Stanford d.school, will be this year’s keynote speaker at the Faculty Forward Fellowship.
The event will . . . be held via Zoom from 12-1 PM ET on Friday, July 8.
Sarah Stein Greenberg is the Executive Director of the Stanford d.school. She leads a community of designers, faculty, and other innovative thinkers who help people unlock their creative abilities and apply them to the world. Sarah speaks regularly at universities and global conferences on design, business, and education. She holds an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and a BA in history from Oberlin College. Sarah also serves as a trustee for the global conservation organization Rare. She lives in San Francisco.

Exploring Extended Reality XR-Examples in Education
“Exploring XR” sessions will explore the wide world of extended reality (XR) technologies with include virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and more. This session will . . . showcase examples of XR applications in education which provide improved immersion, interactivity, and engagement with course concepts. We will provide examples of XR technologies used in courses, including context around their use and the overall process involved. Examples will span different levels of XR complexity in terms of implementation, technology, and faculty effort.

Don’t Start with a Blank Canvas
When you’re preparing to teach each semester, you won’t need to start with a blank Canvas. In this session, we explore how course maintenance will differ in Canvas, the University’s new learning . . . management system. We will cover such course setup tasks as course copies, merged sections, date management, announcements, module publishing, and more. Participants will leave this session with a detailed task checklist arranged as a pre-semester timeline.
