EP’s Generative AI Committee Begin Review Process
EP’s Generative AI (Gen AI) Committee was established to explore the possibilities and risks of integrating Gen AI technologies into EP’s graduate online courses. Comprised of over 20 members across EP programs and the Center for Learning Design and Technology, the committee was charged with identifying innovative applications of Gen AI to enhance teaching and learning while ensuring the ethical and appropriate use of such technologies.
The committee focused on two main goals:
- Identify and investigate innovative applications of Gen AI that can enhance teaching and learning. The committee will address the unique opportunities inherent in AI tools and consider them in light of EP program coursework. An outcome of this goal will be recommendations for EP faculty and students based on the committee’s discoveries.
- Ensure ethical and appropriate use of Gen AI in teaching and learning within EP. Some of the challenges of Gen AI include, but are not limited to, accuracy of generated content, potential plagiarism, and proper attribution to generated material, data privacy and security, and adherence to academic policies and/or procedures. The committee will review these risks and recommend strategies to mitigate them for EP faculty and students.
Over the last six months, committee members met to discuss topics such as content accuracy, plagiarism, and adherence to existing academic policies. The committee’s initial recommendations will be released during the upcoming fall and spring semesters to guide EP faculty.
