JHU Excellence in Online Teaching Grant Update
The Excellence in Online Teaching (EOT) course was developed through a DELTA grant from the JHU Provost’s Office in 2021. It draws upon the expertise of world-renowned faculty from across all JHU divisions. This university-wide effort teaches learners to reflectively analyze and improve their own online teaching, use of technology, building community with learners and more.
Since the EOT course launch on Coursera in November, 2022, it has received over 4,229 unique visitors, with a just over 52% daily active course participation from the 911 people who enrolled (and rising)!
The course is drawing global attention from learners of all ages and varied student and employment statuses. Of interest is that although the US leads the course access by country category, participants in Asia lead in overall global access by continent. In alignment with Coursera student data, the majority of participants do not classify themselves as students and maintain full-time employment.
Many have completed the EOT course to earn their certificate through Coursera. In future phases of the project, learners will be able to join the JHU Excellence in Online Teaching certificate program awarded through JHU and attend a virtual conference. The JHU certificate program will be hosted in Canvas and therefore will provide an instructor-led, personal and interactive approach. Learners will dive deeper into the literature, apply their learning to their own course through personalized projects, and receive feedback from the instructor. The virtual conference will connect learners from the MOOC and certificate programs as well as others in the online teaching space seeking to network and improve their teaching practice.
